Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths for women in McLean County. It is estimated that one in eight women in the United States will develop breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.
The goal of the Health Department's breast health program is to encourage women to seek regular mammograms and clinical breast exams in order to have the best chance at early detection and survival, as well as promoting breast self-awareness.
The McLean County Health Department has programs and presentations available to local employers, churches, and civic groups. These interactive programs and presentations are available to county residents.
Invite Health Promotion to host a breast health awareness and educational event at your place of worship! Worship in Pink is a unique program for congregations of all faiths and community organizations that aims to provide messages of hope, inspiration, and education about breast health in order to increase the number of women receiving mammograms. Events are tailored to your individual congregation to include speakers, presentations, candle lighting ceremonies, and/or moments of silence to honor those affected by breast cancer. Participants may also be offered free transportation services to future mammography appointments.
Invite us to your next health event and we can bring an informational display on healthy breast habits highlighting the importance of regular screenings. In addition to the display, our staff can provide educational materials, small gifts for attendees, and a gift for your prize drawings if applicable.
