Civil Responsibilities

Civil responsibilities of the State's Attorney's Office are performed by the state's attorney and two assistant state's attorneys. The State's Attorney's Office is the legal advisor to County government, which includes:

  • Appointed officials
  • County Board
  • Elected officials
  • Other boards and agencies of the County

As legal advisor, the State's Attorney's Office has the duty to commence and defend actions where the County is a party to a lawsuit, render legal opinions, negotiate contracts, draft legislation, and perform other legal functions as needed.
