3rd Dose of Pfizer or Moderna Authorized Only for Immunocompromised

MCHD is now offering 3rd doses only for those who meet the following medical criteria:

MCHD encourages eligible individuals to consult with their medical provider
to discuss if an additional dose is appropriate for them

  • Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
  • Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
  • Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
  • Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
  • Advanced or untreated HIV infection
  • Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response
  • In addition to one or more of the above qualifications at least 28 days have passed after a second dose of Pfizer or Moderna (does not apply to J&J vaccine)
This additional dose is intended to improve immunocompromised people’s response to their initial vaccine series. However, it is not the same as a booster dose, which is given to people when the immune response to a primary vaccine series is likely to have waned over time.

No other conditions or criteria are eligible for the third dose and CDC does not recommend additional doses or booster shots for any other population at this time.

Questions? Just call our COVID Call Center. (309) 888-5600, Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm

Walk-ins available at all clinics, but registering here will speed things up and ensure vaccine is available. All residents age 12 and up are currently eligible.

  • Pfizer is the only vaccine authorized for individuals younger than 18 at this time.
  • Anyone under 18 years old must have a parent or guardian present to receive the Pfizer vaccine.
  • If the parent assigns another adult to bring their child to the vaccination center, the parent must have completed a proxy form and the completed form must be brought to the clinic by the proxy.
